On Tuesday 13 September, I had the honor and the opportunity to attend a very special breakfast in the famous Hermès boutique in rue de Sèvres in Paris. I suggest you get there to admire the beauty of the place, formerly an old swimming pool in the 30s.
Who says great place, says exceptional event! Louis XIII, the very high-end cognac from Rémy Martin was honored during this morning. A special moment for me because I was born in Cognac and I am very attached to this city. You will understand why I was honored and proud to be there.
Louis XIII cognac ordered the Hermes group three trunks named « The Odyssey of a king ! » Impressive and luxurious arrangements up to the image of this unique Cognac which mixes more than a thousand of spirits from Great Champagne and aged in century-old oak barrels.
These trunks are unique, calfskin, entirely handmade, customized and house the famous Louis XIII, crystal glasses and a decanter mouth blown by Saint Louis, all hand-engraved and showing maps of the 19th century. A Puiforcat pipette full white gold comes as a final touch.
Ludovic du Plessis (Director of Louis XIII) explains that the brand wanted through these trunks, to honor the first great voyages of this cognac at the end of the 1870s. I remember a quote during his speech, which I find quite defines the project, the work done and the quality of this Cognac, he said: « drinking Louis XIII is like drinking time! « …
Three trunks will be auctioned in New York in September in Hong Kong in October and in London in November. Benefits go to « The Film Foundation », a non-profit organization founded in 1990 by Martin Scorsese, which aims to restore the old movies. The brand says they are committed to the world of Art.
You’re probably wondering if I have tasted some Louis XIII … Well yes ! After all there’s no time for that ! An unforgettable memory as much visually as gustatorily! And to paraphrase the famous Bar Refaeli (one of Mr. du Plessis’ friends) « Louis XIII is not a drink, it’s a perfume! ».
