I admit this is not the first destination that comes to mind for a romantic weekend, but trust me the trip is worth it !

Only a few things to visit, almost no shop and no car, Hallstatt is the perfect place to relax with your soulmate.
Known as the most beautiful village in the world (and on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997), Hallstatt is located at a 90 minute drive away from Salzburg, Austria. You can also get there by train or bus from Vienna or Salzburg. I strongly recommend you to go there for three days because it is a real journey to get there! Especially if you have a flight problem like I did…!
The village was so peacefull, I felt like the time had stopped. I will always remember the first morning I woke up there, with the snowy mountains and the stilt houses around the lake. It was a real kick in the ass! It was a real postcard right in front of me… Only it was reality… It is impossible for me to describe the beauty of this village, I think the pictures will be more representative and I’ll spare you the exhaustive and long list of beautiful things there!

Let yourself walk by these narrow streets, maps are not necessary there! And one piece of advice : take the footpath that leads you near the waterfall overlooking the whole village…. And most importantely… DO NOT forget your camera !
I’m sure everyone will be touched in their own way by so much beauty.
Where to sleep ?
You should know that there are not a lot of hotels in Hallstatt, neither are there many restaurants, but I would recommend this bed & breakfast that will make your stay even more magical and romantic : Hallstatt Hideaway / Private Suites
The owner of the place is a lovely lady with an exceptional sense of service. So is her employee by the way.
The rooms have a direct view of Lake Hallstatt. And if I may recommend it :Take the room with the outdoor jacuzzi. You will have the impression of floating in the mountains !

Where to eat ?
Seehotel Gruner Baum (it has a beautiful terrace in the summer and the fish is caught in the lake every day).
I’d like to go there! Love your pictures!
Hi Pierre,
Great pictures! I’m going to visit Hallstatt soon and was wondering if I could ask few questions ‘offline’.
What time of the year did you go? I’m wondering if easter weekend will be too cold still
In February! Was amazing with the snow!
